Thriving wildlife populations + sustainable livelihoods for people.

In 2023, my family and I traveled through the Kunene Region of Namibia. We met Robbin Uatokuja in the village of Purros. We talked about the beauty of the landscape, the rare wildlife and the indigenous Himba and Herero. Our discussions made clear the challenges for both wildlife and people in this region were growing. With droughts becoming more frequent and more severe, it became clear that for people and wildlife to continue to thrive, food security, wildlife conservation and development of sustainable livelihoods for people will be critical. Over several months after returning home, these conversations evolved into a collaboration. Himbaland Indigenous Conservation was chartered in 2023 with Robbin Uatokuja as is Executive Director.
